LAST UPDATE: September 11, 2020
|
PLEASE NOTE:
It is difficult to " ascertain " if soldiers and/or sailors were actually from The District Of Columbia or not !
The U.S. Military, when a soldier and/or sailor, didn't have a particular residence in the United States
would add them with a residence of the "District Of Columbia" !
|
The following list was created in the memory of those District Of Columbia soldiers that gave their all to their Country during World War II. Soldier's of the armed forces, as well as Merchant Marines, are both included in this listing.I have created or found "online memorials" for these honored men and women using "Find A Grave". You will see a blue " Yes " behind their names and by clicking on the " Yes " you can see the memorial that either I or someone else has created for them.
On "many" of the online memorials you will see a small biography for each soldier which includes: parent's names, where they lived and where and how they actually died. If you see one without a bio and you have information on them please email me and I'll update their records.
Also Please Note:
- The records show these men and women as either enlisting, being originally from, or having strong ties to the District Of Columbia. Therefore some of these soldiers may not necessarily be from the particular county noted. However I'm 99.9% sure they all are!
- On all bio's that I create I always use the term "enlisted" and never use the term "drafted". These men all had a "choice" on signing up or not whether they received a draft notice or not ... Therefore in my eyes they all "enlisted".
If you know where any of these men or women are interred, have a picture or more information about them please let me know by sending me an "email - (by clicking here)" so that I can make an online memorial for them or add more information about them on their memorial. This is just a small way of making sure these Maryland soldiers and Merchant Marines that gave their all ARE REMEMBERED!!
If you would like to see information on a particular soldier not yet on these listings, Send me an email and I'll gladly include them as quickly as possible.
