" Pickled Onions "

If you like onions ..... You'll love making and using these !

" Pickled Onions " are great on so many things and they really change up the flavor of :

  • Grilled Burgers, Hot Dogs, Steaks ..... ( or even if they aren't grilled )
  • Added to any salad ... Regular side salads or even potato or macaroni salads ...
  • Tacos on Taco Tuesdays ...
  • On any type of Sandwiches like ... Tuna Salad, Deli Meat sandwiches, grilled cheese, or your favorite sandwich ...
  • On loaded baked potatoes ...
  • Diced up and added to soup after it's cooked ...
  • As a topping to many of your regular dishes ...

  • The list is only limited to your imagination ...

         And " Pickled Onions " are sooooo easy to make and store in your fridge ..... When you have folks over for dinner or a cookout who love onions they'll be asking you for this recipe .....

This recipe can easily be doubled or even tripled when you have a lot of folks coming over !

" You gotta try these out !

  Ingredients:

  •     1  ~  pound of some type of onions  ~  ( See Tip #1 for types of onions you can use )

  •     3/4  ~  cup of apple cider vinegar  ~  ( See Tip #2 for types of vinegar you can use )

  •     1  ~  cup of hot water

  •     1  ~  Tablespoon of sugar
                  ( For sweeter pickled onions, use more sweetener, for tangy pickled onions, use less )

  •     1  ~  Tablespoon of salt

  •     1  ~  glove of garlic  ~  ( " Optional " ~ only if you like a garlic taste )

  •     An airtight container for storing them in the fridge


Directions:

  1.   Slice the onions as thin as you can.   I use a mandoline but of course a sharp knife works as well.

  2.   Place the onions in a jar or in an airtight container.

  3.   Slice the glove of garlic in half  ~  ( if using ) .

  4.   Heat your water in the microwave  ~  ( you want it hot but " not " boiling hot ) .

  5.   In a bowl or 4 cup measuring cup, combine apple cider vinegar, salt, sugar, garlic ( if using ), and heated water.

  6.   Stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved.

  7.   Pour the pickling mixture over the sliced onions, making sure they are immersed in the liquid, and let them set for an hour uncovered.

  8.   After an hour, cover and store them in the fridge for up to three weeks .....

   

You can use any type of onion you'd like to include :
( Remember the type of onion will effect the flavor - experiment to find the one you like )
  •   Sweet White Onions ...
  •   Yellow Onions ...
  •   Red Onions ...
  •   And even Shallots ...
   

You can use any type of vinegar you'd like to include :
( Remember the type of vinegar will effect the flavor - experiment to find the one you like )
  •   Apple Cider Vinegar ...
  •   Red Wine Vinegar ...
  •   White Vinegar ...
  •   etc. ...
