" Egg In The Nest " has quickly become a favorite breakfast for myself, my wife, and all my grankids ..... and basically everyone that has ever tried it !

And there are multiple ways to make it ..... So is it a " healthy dish " ? ..... Well ..... no it isn't for sure.   It includes a lot of butter plus an egg.   My wife and I only eat one about once a month ( ok ... maybe it's really about once a week ... LOL )

" Look below in Tips & Ideas to see how you can change this up a little ! "

( See the photos above for a quick idea on how it's made )

Ingredients:  ~  ( For making " 2 " servings )

  •   2  ~  Eggs - ( 1 per person )

  •   2  ~  Slices of Bread  -  ( see Tip #1 below )

  •   1  ~  Stick of Butter - ( 8 Tablespoons )

  •   Seasoning of your choice  -  ( see Tip #2 below )
( It's good with muliple different seasonings " OR " even plain with just the butter )

Directions:

  1.   Melt the butter on low in a frying pan large enough to cook two slices of bread.
( If you are using a seasoning It's good with muliple different seasonings " OR " even plain with just the butter )

  2.   Place the bread on a flat surface and using a cookie cutter cut a hole in both slices.  -  ( see Tip #3 )

  3.   Once the butter is completely melted increase the heat in the pan.

  4.   Then place both slices, and the pieces of cut out bread, to the pan.

  5.   Then crack each egg into the holes in the bread.  -  ( see Tip #4 )

  6.   After you see that the egg white is cooking then quickly flip them over along with the extra two cut out pieces.
( see photo to the right )

    " Note "

Its a good idea to keep extra butter close by as sometimes different breads soak it up quickly
and you made need to add a little more ...

  7.   Once it's cooked on both sides to your liking simply serve it up on a plate and .....

You can use multiple types of bread .... White, Wheat, Rye, Pumpernickel, etc.......

Instead of using just melted butter ..... You can also mix in a spice with the butter while it's melting such as .....
  • " Garlic Powder " ...
  • " Garlic Salt " ...
  • " Celery Salt " ...
  • " dried Basil " ...
  • " dried Oregano " ...
  • " dried Thyme " ...
  • " dried crushed Rosemary " ...
  • " Mixed dried Italian Seasoning " ...

  • " ETC " ...

Instead of using a round cookie cutter I also have other shapes such as .....
  • " Heart Shape " ...
  • " Diamond Shape " ...

  • " Plus you can use ANY holiday cookie cutter you might have as well " ...

As you can see in the above photo I always " break the yolk " however you can either leave it unbroken for those that like their eggs sunnyside up " OR " you can scramble each egg individually and then pour it into the hole in the bread .....
